Police officers rescued a woman from a collapsing building in South Boston
Boston police officers rescued a woman who was trapped in a collapsing building early Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to a call around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday after a load-bearing wall suddenly collapsed between apartment buildings on O Street in South Boston. When they arrived at the scene, they heard a woman calling for help, but the main door to the building was locked, according to a release from the Boston Police Department.
After trying and failing to contact other residents, officers forced their way through the front door and found a woman trapped behind a damaged door frame. They were able to kick the door down and rescue the woman, escorting her out of the collapsing building.
Officers then evacuated residents from surrounding buildings. Boston police and fire department officials have shut down the street.
No injuries were reported from the collapse.
