Mayor Marty Walsh said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon that schools will be closed out of an “abundance of caution,” with the expectation that streets and sidewalks will still be icy while kids would be heading to school.
“We want to make sure with the freezing temperatures tonight, I would rather err on the side of caution, than put our kids in harm’s way,” Walsh said.
All other municipal offices will be open, and Walsh said the snow emergency parking ban will be lifted at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The Greater Boston area is expected to receive between eight and 12 inches of snow by the time the storm passes this evening. Other parts of the state could see more than a foot.
