New Bedford woman charged with leaving son on road in brutal cold

A New Bedford mother was charged with child abandonment Monday after allegedly leaving her 11-year-old son on a Mattapoisett road during frigid weather Friday night, police said.

Marina Johnson had allegedly been driving with her two sons Friday night when she became “very mad” at the 11-year-old. She asked him to get out of the car and shut the door behind him, the boy told Mattapoisett police. Johnson sped off.
