Man suffers life-threatening injuries in crash with freight train
Authorities are investigating a crash involving a car and freight train in Bridgewater early Friday morning that left a 20-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
Bridgewater police said officers responded to an area near the Oak Street railroad crossing around 3 a.m. to reports that a car had been struck on the tracks. Upon locating the vehicle, which sustained extensive front-end damage, first responders began to treat the driver at the scene before transporting him to Brockton Hospital.
Police said the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The initial investigation by local police, MBTA Transit Police, and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office indicates the driver turned right off Oak Street onto the railroad tracks, according to authorities.
The vehicle was stopped on the tracks at the time of the crash, police said.
