With bitter cold temperatures settling across New England Friday, a Maine police department offered tips in the form of a poem for dealing with the frigid weather.“I was inspired this morning while my nostrils fused together in the face of the north wind,” Bangor Police Sergeant Tim Cotton wrote on his department’s Facebook page. “I was overcome with the need to write poetry.”Before revealing the poem, Cotton, who has been running the Facebook page since 2014, doled out some advice for handling the “stinking cold,” such as that when wearing your warm wool clothing you should “be aware of your surroundings as rapid itching can sometimes be mistaken for strange behavior.”But then he went back to the poetry:

Cold does blow but off you go, to both work and play

With matted hair, yes I went there, you enter this cold, cold day

Please cover your skin, with at least something thin, before you go out to walk or drive.

The cold can kill, and sometimes will

Your boss would like you alive

This is not the first time the department has offered tips for dealing with winter weather with a twist of humor. In January, the advice was directed at residents in the Mid-Atlantic bracing for a big snowstorm. Read the full post below.
