New Hampshire state rep charged with assaulting police officer at concert

LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — A newly elected New Hampshire representative faces a misdemeanor charge after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer while attending a concert.

The Laconia Daily Sun reports the trial for Michael Maloney, of Gilmanton, was scheduled for Monday but his attorney filed for a continuance so an additional investigation can be conducted. The judge granted him an extension of 45 to 60 days.

Police say the 51-year-old Maloney was part of a rowdy group that refused to settle down when asked by a security officer outside the gate at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in September.

Police say Maloney chest-bumped a responding officer.

Maloney, a Republican, was elected to his first term in the state House in November. He didn’t respond to a request for comment.
