1 dead, 1 injured in head-on crash on I-495 in Chelmsford

One person died and another was injured in a two-car crash on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford Saturday, state police said in a statement.Around 6:40 a.m., police responded to I-495 northbound, south of Exit 33, for reports of a head-on collision.Police said a 2000 Ford Focus was traveling on I-495 southbound when it left the roadway, crossed the median, and hit a 2017 Toyota Camry traveling northbound.The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, while the operator of the Toyota was taken to the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, according to police.All northbound travel lanes of the I-495 were closed during reconstruction before reopening around 11 a.m., state police said on Twitter. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
