A campaign sign for Mayor Alex Morse was defaced in Holyoke, marking the second time in a week that the openly gay mayor has been targeted for his sexuality, The Republican reports. Morse received an anonymous letter at his home last week that read, “Alex, you are one of the most selfish people I know due to your ‘gay’ lifestyle. You are going down.” The words “suck’s,” “litteally” and “www.gay.com,” were attached to the surface of Morse’s campaign sign.

Morse told The Republican he’d been informed of the defaced sign Sunday afternoon by a passerby, and that he’d be forwarding information on the incident to police.

“I’m a very strong person, so I don’t get personally upset about it,” Morse told the newspaper. “I think it’s important that people be aware of this kind of action.”
