2 UMass Dartmouth students hospitalized after being hit by car

Police are investigating after two UMass Dartmouth students were struck by a car Thursday evening in Dartmouth. The two women were struck by a 2013 Audi A4 driven by a 53-year-old Westport man around 6:19 p.m. near the intersection of Old Westport Road and Cross Road, police said. Police did not identify the victims, who are 19 and 21 years old. UMass Dartmouth spokesman John Hoey confirmed both women are students at the university.The 19-year-old was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, while the 21-year-old was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. 

As of Friday morning, Hoey said the student taken to St. Luke’s was discharged, while the 19-year-old is still at Rhode Island Hospital.

Information on the extent of their injuries or whether charges will be filed against the driver was not immediately available.
