Man struck, killed by train while walking on tracks in Athol
A 65-year-old Leominster man is dead after he appears to have been struck by a train Tuesday morning while walking on a railway bridge in Athol, authorities said. The Northwestern District Attorney’s office said Wednesday Raymond Regan was headed west on the railroad trestle over the Millers River when he “was apparently unsuccessful in removing himself from the tracks as a train approached.” He was taken to Athol Memorial Hospital where he declared dead just after 12 p.m., according to the DA’s office. The incident remains under investigation.
