Mother struggles with guilt after daughter’s shooting in Roxbury

Her hospital scrubs festooned with tigers glow in late-afternoon sunlight streaming through the kitchen window. The little girl doesn’t seem to be in pain, even though she’s just been discharged from the hospital.
She doesn’t seem like someone who had been shot the weekend before.
“I’ve never been through anything as difficult as this,” the child’s mother, Jeniah Peoples, says, looking at her daughter. “Right now, I’m trying to go at her pace and take it a day at a time.”
On Wednesday, Peoples spoke publicly for the first time about what happened Saturday, when a bullet fired on a Roxbury street pierced her daughter’s hand and leg.
