One officer shot last week in East Boston discharged from hospital

The second officer is "getting better," Boston Police Commissioner Williams Evans said.

One of the Boston police officers who was shot responding to a domestic dispute last week in East Boston has been released from hospital and sent home, police announced on Twitter.

Officer Richard Cintolo was discharged from Massachusetts General Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Police said he is happy to be home and thankful for the “outpouring of prayers and support.”

Matt Morris, the second officer shot during the confrontation with 33-year-old Kirk Figueroa, remains in the hospital but is “getting better,” according to Police Commissioner William Evans.

The two officers’ conditions were upgraded to stable Monday after spending the weekend in “critical, but stable” condition.

Cintolo and Morris were shot after responding to a report that Figueroa was threatening his roommate with a knife. Figueroa was armed with a shotgun and bulletproof vest, The Boston Globe reported, and was killed in the firefight.
