Officials offer reward for arson spree in suburban driveways
Tyngsboro police are offering a reward for information about an arson spree in residents’ driveways that damaged 11 vehicles and one home earlier this month.
Officials say they will pay up to $5,000 to anyone who has information about the fires.
“The perpetrators of this act will be found and held responsible,” Tyngsboro Police Chief Richard Howe said in a statement. “They not only intentionally destroyed the property of law abiding Tyngsborough residents, but also endangered community members, as their actions could have caused a much more serious fire.”
Most of the fires took place on Oct. 8 between 2 and 3:30 a.m. The damaged vehicles included nine cars and two scooters at six different locations. Police received calls about the fires in rapid succession: at 2:26 a.m., 2:32 a.m., 2:41 a.m., and 3:05 a.m. On one street, three cars were damaged by car fires in the driveways of two separate homes. And at one residence, a car fire damaged the nearby house as well, police said.
The sole car fire on Oct. 7 took place just before 11 a.m. and officials say they believe it is connected to the spree that followed.
Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229. Police say calls will be kept confidential.
