Gabby Giffords will hold a gun violence prevention rally in Boston on Friday in an effort to encourage citizens to demand change from elected leaders as part of her Vocal Majority Tour, Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC said in a statement. The former Arizona congresswoman, who was severely injured in a 2011 shooting, will be joined by Senator Ed Markey, Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Congressman Joe Kennedy, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Mothers for Justice and Equality founder Monalisa Smith, and Stop Handgun Violence founder John Rosenthal for the 19th stop of the six-week nationwide bus tour, according to the statement. The press conference and rally, taking place at 11 a.m. at the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial on Boston Common, will focus on connecting with Americans who support “commonsense gun violence prevention laws” and encourage them to vote with that in mind come November, ARS said. ARS, a gun violence prevention organization founded by Giffords and her husband, retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, strives to support candidates at various levels of office who resist the gun lobby, want to reduce gun violence, and are dedicated to taking action, according to ARS.
