Cape Cod baby born in police parking lot

A Cape Cod mother delivered her baby in an unexpected place on Sunday — a police station’s parking lot.

When 38-year-old Mary Walker went into labor at her Harwich Port home, her mother and teenage daughter began driving her to Cape Cod Hospital, reports the Cape Cod Times.

Walker told her family she was about to start pushing, so her 15 year-old daughter Michaela quickly called 911. Police instructed the women to pull into the Dennis police station, where two officers were waiting. Less than 10 minutes later, baby Ella was born, weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce.

Paramedics arrived just as Ella was born and took Walker and her baby to the hospital.

“We deal with a lot of negative things day in and day out,” Dennis police officer Krista Wunderlich, who helped deliver the baby, told the Cape Cod Times. “So to be a part of a special day for that family … that’s really cool.”
