Boston Pops to take over July Fourth fireworks concert

The Boston Pops has agreed to take over the annual July Fourth fireworks concert on the Esplanade starting next year.
The Boston Pops said Monday that it has agreed to take over the annual July Fourth fireworks concert on the Esplanade starting next year, ensuring that the four-decade tradition will continue after the retirement of longtime producer David Mugar.
The Pops also said it will take over management of Boston 4 Productions, which for 43 years has produced the event. Mugar, who announced in December that this past July’s show would be his last, will serve as an adviser, and executive producers Pamela Picard and Richard MacDonald will continue to manage planning and operations.
