Police: Woman found near Weymouth ravine recants assault story

A woman who was found near a Weymouth ravine with duct tape on her hands and feet Wednesday evening has recanted her original report, telling police she was not assaulted and her story was untrue, police said in a Facebook post late Thursday afternoon.

Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, police received a 911 call from an 18-year-old woman saying she had been assaulted and needed help. Officers located the caller near a ravine between Main Street and Route 3 using their sirens and calling out for her, police said in an earlier post. She was removed from thick brush and taken to a hospital, where investigators spoke with her for several hours.

Police said in their initial post the woman’s story was vague and she did not fully cooperate. She initially told officers she had been given a ride by a man and then dropped off in the area where she was found, according to police. She also reportedly talked about meeting different men on an online website.

Police continued the investigation throughout the night and Thursday, asking for anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the department.

Police said the woman does not live on the South Shore and the investigation is ongoing.
