Burlington football coach suspended following allegations of verbal misconduct towards players

The head varsity football coach at Burlington High School was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday while school officials investigate allegations of inappropriate verbal conduct towards players.

Burlington Superintendent Eric Conti said in a statement that the allegations of verbal misconduct by Shawn Maguire were reported to the school administration this week. The football coach was informed of the accusations when he was placed on leave, Conti said.

“I understand that there may be many questions, and I want to thank our community members for their patience and support while this investigation is underway,” Conti said. “The Burlington Public Schools is a safe and welcoming educational community, and we take any allegations of inappropriate verbal actions or behavior seriously.”
