3 killed, 5 injured in head-on crash on Route 195 in Westport
State police are investigating a head-on crash in Westport that left three people dead and five injured Wednesday morning.Police said troopers responded to the crash on Route 195 around 8:12 a.m. The initial investigation indicates a livery van traveling westbound crossed the median between Exits 10 and 11 and struck a BMW in the eastbound lane head-on.The crash killed two occupants of the livery vehicle, as well as the 23-year-old New Bedford woman driving the BMW, police said. The van rolled over after impact and was then struck by a Subaru Outback, which caught fire. Two other vehicles were damaged from impacts of the initial crash, according to police.
Police said two passengers in the BMW — a 25-year-old man and a male toddler, both of New Bedford — survived the crash and were transported to an area hospital with injuries. A third person in livery van, who was not identified, also survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the driver of the Subaru, a 27-year-old man from Vermont, was transported for treatment of minor injuries. Another driver who struck the van after the crash was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
