53-year-old woman dies in Fitchburg fire
A 53-year-old woman died in a fire at her Fitchburg home Monday morning, the Worcester District Attorney’s office said in a statement.Firefighters pulled Cheryl L. Cutting from her burning home at 71 Cottage St. before taking her to a local hospital. Officials said she was pronounced dead at 8:33 a.m.The DA’s office said fire officials discovered that pellets for a pellet stove, stored too close to a water heater in the basement, caused the fire. There were no working smoke alarms in the home, according to authorities.No one else was injured in the fire, as Cutting was the only resident of the single-family home, the DA’s office said. The fire remains under investigation, according to authorities.
