Police: Knife-wielding woman shot by officer in Weymouth

A woman brandishing a “large knife” was shot by an officer in Weymouth on Sunday morning, police said in a Facebook post. Police said the woman was shot once in the abdomen area and described the incident as a “non-fatal” shooting.

Around 11:33 a.m., police responded to 191 King Ave. after a 911 call from a “frantic” mother who said her daughter was trying to kill herself with a knife, according to the post.

Police said an officer was confronted at the front door by a “hysterical” 46-year-old woman armed with the “large knife.”

The officer backed away toward the street and the woman followed him, allegedly waving the knife and ignoring the officer’s orders to drop the weapon.

The woman was still at the hospital and under arrest Sunday afternoon. She has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, according to police.

The incident is under investigation by Weymouth police and the Norfolk District Attorney’s office.
