Route 128 will be closed for two days in November

A section of Route 128 will be shut down for two weekend days in November, transportation officials tell The Boston Globe.

The section of the highway will close while crews demolish the Highland Avenue Bridge in Needham. Traffic will be detoured onto local roads during the demolition.

“It’s not the Big Dig, but for around here, it’s pretty big,” Needham Selectman Daniel P. Matthews told the Globe about the expected inconvenience for drivers.

The bridge, which connects Newton with Needham, was built in 1931 and reconstructed in 1953. Officials are removing it to complete the Add-A-Lane project for Route 128/Interstate 95, an overcrowded road where drivers have been using the breakdown lane.

The closure will take place on the night of Nov. 4 and continue through Nov. 6.
