Andover police investigating report of ‘suspicious’ ice cream truck driver
Police believe there is no threat to public safety.
Andover police are investigating after a 16-year-old girl reported that a man in an ice cream truck attempted to talk to her while she was walking home. Police said in a statement Thursday they don’t believe there is a threat to public safety.
“This young woman did the right thing by calling police after an unnerving situation,” Police Chief Patrick Keefe said. “At this time we do not feel the public is in any danger, but will continue to search for this vehicle and follow up on any leads we receive.”
Around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to High Plain Road and Beacon Street for a report from a teenage girl about a suspicious man in an ice cream truck.
The teen told officers she saw the vehicle approach her on the other side of the road before a man yelled “hey” and “hello” from the truck. The vehicle never stopped and no one got out, police said.
A search of the surrounding area was conducted, but police did not locate the truck.
Police said the vehicle had no distinct markings except for the words “Ice Cream” written in blue letters on its side. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 978-475-0411.
