The Wang and Shubert theaters will have new names beginning Nov. 1.

New England’s famous Boch family has purchased the naming rights to the Citi Performing Arts Center, which operates the Wang and Shubert theaters, reports The Boston Globe. The historic theaters will soon be called the Wang Theatre at the Boch Center and the Shubert Theatre at the Boch Center.

Josiah Spaulding Jr., president and CEO of Citi Performing Arts Center, announced the change Thursday during a ceremony at the Wang and unveil the new Boch Center logo. Mayor Marty Walsh attended the event.

“The main reason I did it was because of Joe,” Ernie Boch Jr., 58, CEO of Boch Enterprises in Norwood, told the Globe during an interview inside the Wang.”This theater is near and dear to my heart, but it’s the work that Joe does with the community. This is a living, breathing theater.”

Boch is impressed with the music education taking place inside the theaters during the day, something that appeals to the trained musician who began the charitable foundation Music Drives Us.
