Police find no evidence to support attempted abduction report in Townsend
Police have found no evidence to support the attempted abduction reported by three teenage boys Tuesday, Townsend police said in a statement Thursday. After several interviews with the teens and their parents, following up on several tips sent to police, and reviewing video surveillance from the Townsend Senior Center and Library, police said they have found no evidence substantiating the report.Around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, three teenage boys reported that an older man had jumped out from behind a large rock formation near the police station, startling them. The teens said he tried to grab one of them and hit another on the back of the neck, according to police. The man then allegedly ran into a wooded area near the parking lot of the senior center. Police said they were unable to find the suspect after searching for an hour.“We do not believe there is any threat to the safety of our community or residents,” Police Chief Robert M. Eaton said. “We have conducted a thorough investigation, and will continue to follow up on all leads, but at this time we have no evidence to corroborate the teenagers’ allegations.”
