TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say three speed boats collided during a race on a Massachusetts lake, leaving one driver dead and two others injured.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s office says the collision happened Saturday afternoon during the Bill Giles Memorial Regatta on Watson Pond in Taunton.

Taunton Fire Chief Timothy Bradshaw said in a statement that one speed boat spun out traveling 65 mph, causing a pileup. He said all three drivers were thrown from their boats.

The Bristol County DA’s office says 39-year-old Mark Greene, of Moultonborough, New Hampshire, died at the scene. A second boater, 67-year-old Stephen Joy, of Bangor, Maine, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition, and 72-year-old Alex Poliakoff, of Richmond, Maine, was treated for minor injuries.
