2 dead in I-495 crash in Merrimac

Two males died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-495 in Merrimac, state police said in a statementAround 7:45 a.m, six males were in a 2004 Ford Econovan traveling north on I-495 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the van to roll over onto the median strip, according to police.One passenger was ejected from the van during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A second occupant suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police. Initial reports stated only one occupant died as a result of the crash. Police have not publicly identified the deceased.The four remaining occupants suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals, according to police.

Police said they are investigating whether one of the van’s tires may have blown out, according to the statement. The crash remains under investigation.
