A 5 year-old boy flying solo wound up at Logan Airport while his mother waited for him 214 miles away in New York, reports the NY Daily News.

Andy Martinez Mercado was flying home on JetBlue from the Dominican Republic when he boarded a flight to Boston rather than New York City. His mother, Maribel Martinez, said she was frantic when the airline presented a little boy to her at John F. Kennedy International Airport that was not her son.

“I thought he was kidnapped,” Martinez told the Daily News. “I thought I would never see him again.”

She said her son was wearing a wristband with his name on it and she paid a $100 fee for a JetBlue employee to escort him.

A JetBlue spokeswoman said in a statement Wednesday: “Two unaccompanied children of the same age traveling separately from Santiago, Dominican Republic, one to New York JFK and one to Boston — each boarded a flight to the incorrect destination. Upon learning of the error, our teams in JFK and Boston immediately took steps to assist the children in reaching their correct destinations. While the children were always under the care and supervision of JetBlue crew members, we realize this situation was distressing for their families.”

JetBlue gave the Martinez family a $475 refund for the flight, as well as a $2,100 credit for future flights.
