A manatee was spotted off Cape Cod
The International Fund for Animal Welfare has confirmed a manatee sighting in Cape Cod waters, reports the Cape Cod Times.
Though the IFAW says it has not seen it, the organization has received pictures and videos of the marine mammal swimming off Dowses Beach in Osterville and Oyster Pond in Chatham.
Manatees, which can grow up to more than 14 feet long and weigh more than 3,000 pounds, are usually found off Florida.
“Here on the Cape it’s not very common,” Misty Niemeyer, marine mammal rescue and research member with the IFAW, told the Times. “We aren’t really quite sure what they are doing.”
