Police investigate fatal shooting of 26-year-old in Worcester
Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man in Worcester Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to the area of 2 Elliot Street around 9:06 p.m. and found the victim, Jose Ortiz, of Worcester, unconscious on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, according to Worcester police. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Police said they were informed Ortiz was arguing with a male suspect who got out of a “minivan type vehicle” just before the shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect got back into the car after the argument and single shot was fired and drove off in the direction of Belmont Street.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police at 508-799-8651.
Police said it is the sixth homicide in the city this year.
