27-year-old drowns in Pawtuxet River
A 27-year-old Rhode Island man drowned Wednesday while swimming with friends in the Pawtuxet River, according to authorities.
Police in Cranston, Rhode Island, said first responders got a call about a missing swimmer just before 5 p.m. Officers were told the man, Alexander Hingham of West Warwick, Rhode Island, was in the water with friends when he began to show distress. His friends attempted to help, but were unable to save him, according to police.
Cranston fire officials found his body in 10 feet of water after a 90-minute search.
Police said the incident remains under investigation.
