The state Department of Transportation says it will expand an in-state toll discount program for drivers using a Massachusetts E-ZPass transponder, as the state moves toward an all-electronic tolling system along the Mass. Pike, Tobin Bridge, and Boston tunnels.Discounts for Massachusetts E-ZPass users would be extended to every toll collection location — including the Tobin Bridge and airport tunnels. MassDOT said with the expanded discounts, the cost of driving from one end of the Mass. Pike to the other will drop from $6.60 to $6.15 for Massachusetts E-ZPass users. The discounts are currently only at the Weston and Allston/Brighton tolls, where drivers with a Massachusetts E-ZPass get a 25-cent discount, according to The Boston Globe. Drivers with a state transponder also already get a 50-cent discount at the Sumner and Ted Williams tunnels. According to the Globe, the new discounts would range from 5 to 50 cents and even non-residents could get the cheaper toll by using an E-Zpass account from Massachusetts. The state’s new all-electronic tolling gantries, along with the expanded discounts, would go live in late October. Read the full report at the Globe.
