2 Mass. prep school teachers let go for sexual misconduct

Two local prep schools have let teachers go after independent investigations uncovered decades-old incidents of sexual misconduct with students, according to The Boston Globe.

Concord Academy asked Parkman Howe to resign and Northfield Mount Hermon in Gill fired Gary Partenheimer, the Globe reported. Howe admitted to kissing a student twice 30 years ago, and Partenheimer faces undisclosed accusations of sexual misconduct from a former student.

In addition to the two ousted teachers, the investigations revealed other credible allegations against faculty from decades ago, according to the Globe.

The schools are just two of at least two dozen who have launched investigations into sexual abuse on their campuses this year. Both schools say they reported all allegations of abuse to the appropriate authorities, the Globe reported.

“There were a number of inappropriate relationships between adults and students, relationships that left lasting harm,” Rick Hardy, the head of school at Concord Academy, wrote in a community letter obtained by the Globe. “Let me be clear that a romantic relationship, whether physical or emotional, between an adult and student can in no way be ‘consensual’ and under no circumstances is it acceptable.”
