Police recover loaded shotgun during Roxbury arrest
Boston police recovered a loaded shotgun Monday while arresting a man who allegedly broke into a Mission Hill apartment.
Officers responded to the report of the breaking and entering in the area of 10 Wait St. around 7:10 p.m. Police said they were given detailed description of the suspect, who allegedly stole items including a laptop from the apartment and fled the scene on a blue bicycle.
The suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Andre Hopkins, of Roxbury, was seen by officers riding a bicycle near Shawmut Avenue and Dudley Street. Police said officers were following him when a winter jacket he was carrying got caught in the bike’s back wheel, bringing him to a stop.
The officers saw what appeared to be a long shotgun under the jacket and took Hopkins into custody after a short struggle, according to police. Police said the loaded shotgun, laptop, and other items were recovered by the officers.

According to police, Hopkins repeatedly yelled, “What did I do? What did I do,” while he was being arrested. Later, while he was being booked, police said he insisted that he found the gun and it didn’t belong to him.
Hopkins was arraigned Monday in West Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of carrying a rifle or shotgun on a public way, unlawful possession of ammunition, breaking and entering, resisting arrest, and trespassing. His bail in this case was set at $20,000, while his bail in two separate open cases, on breaking and entering and drug distribution, was revoked.
An attorney for Hopkins could not immediately be reached for comment.
