How one neighborhood reacted after a gay couple was targeted
When a Natick couple returned from vacation to discover their flag stolen and porch vandalized, they were crushed.
But what their neighbors did next restored their spirits, reports The Boston Globe.
Cari and Lauri Ryding, a gay couple, had hung a rainbow flag on their porch in the wake of the Orlando massacre. In response to the theft, neighbors ordered rainbow flags for the whole street and asked their children to deliver them.
“We said, ‘Why don’t we all have the flags? They can’t take them from all of us,’” Dennis Gaughan, a neighbor, told the Globe.
“One person’s act of fear and maliciousness created such a powerful statement of love,” Lauri Ryding told the Globe. “We are very blessed, very fortunate.”
