Boy still in critical condition after nearly drowning in Lowell
The young boy who nearly drowned in a backyard pool during a birthday party in Lowell Saturday is still in critical condition, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office said in a statement. A young girl, also involved in the incident, is still hospitalized but her condition has improved.
Lowell police confirmed that around 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to Freda Lane for a report of an apparent drowning. Officers discovered two unresponsive children, a 3-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, on arrival.
Both children had been pulled from an above-ground pool during the party and were receiving emergency CPR from a neighbor, who is a registered nurse, before paramedics arrived, the DA’s office said. They were then taken to a local hospital, according to authorities.
The incident remains under investigation, the DA’s office said.
