Father drowns while swimming with children at Cape Cod pond
A 36-year-old father drowned Monday evening while swimming with his children at Joshua Pond in Osterville.
Barnstable police said the man’s two young children approached a couple at the pond just before 8 p.m. to ask for help when they could not find their father. The boy told responding officers that his sister was swimming with their father but he later saw his sister by herself and went into the water to get her, according to police.
Authorities from multiple towns responded to search the water. Dive teams later recovered the body of Jorge Arias outside the marked swimming area, according to police. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
