Police investigating drowning in Worcester

Worcester police are investigating after a 49-year-old woman drowned in Coes Pond.

Police said officers responded to a Fremont Street home on Thursday evening to check on the welfare of a person. Officers were told that the woman had not been seen since 7 a.m. was last spotted at Coes Pond. Police said they were told she may have been swimming there and began searching the area but were unsuccessful.

Friday morning, the Worcester Fire Department’s scuba team returned to the pond and recovered her body.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that it appears to be an accidental drowning,” police said.
