Officials: West Bridgewater fatal fire began in the kitchen
A fire that killed a West Bridgewater man on Monday began in his kitchen, authorities say.
Robert Murphy, 54, died in the blaze at the two-family home. He lived on the first floor.
The fire was accidental, the state fire marshal’s office said in a statement.
“It is a very sad coincidence that there was a fatal fire in 1993 right across the street from this house,” West Bridgewater Fire Chief Leonard Hunt said in a statement. “The last fatal fire in our community was in 1999.”
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they heard alarms going off, the state fire marshal’s office said. Investigators say they cannot determine the cause of the fire because of the damage to the house.
