Around 1:30 p.m., an elderly man was waiting in line to make a purchase at the Quick Mart located at 377 Lowell St., when he observed a white man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt standing behind him, according to police.

The young man, in his late 20s, opened the door for the elderly man and followed him outside, police said.

The elderly man told police he felt a nudge above his left hip as he opened his car door. He said he noticed his wallet was missing when he got in his car and saw the other man walking away from the area, police said.

Police said the man found his wallet in his mailbox a few hours later, with $400 in cash missing.

Wakefield police are attempting to locate and identify the man pictured in the Quick Mart surveillance photos. Anyone with information is asked to call 781-245-1212.
