A Vermont man was arrested Wednesday on a heroin trafficking charge after a motor vehicle stop in Greenfield, Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
Early Wednesday morning around 12:20 a.m., troopers on patrol on Route 91 north saw a Honda Civic driving over the speed limit and stopped the car, police said.
A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of about 24 to 40 grams of a substance believed to be heroin inside the car, according to the statement.
The vehicle’s operator, Michael McFarland, 32, of West Charleston, was arrested on charges of heroin trafficking, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and speeding.
He was expected to be arraigned in Greenfield District Court later Wednesday.
