Teen driving dirt bike killed in crash with Fall River police cruiser

A 19-year-old man was killed in an early-morning crash in Fall River involving a dirt bike and a police cruiser, authorities said.

The Bristol District Attorney’s office said the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. when three Fall River police cruisers were responding to a call, traveling on Slade Street with their lights flashing. The dirt bike hit the second cruiser in the front passenger door area as it went through an intersection.

The driver of the dirt bike, Rafael Cordeiro, of Fall River, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The DA’s office said the preliminary investigation indicates that Cordeiro failed to stop at the intersection for the cruiser, which had slowed before going through the crossing. The bike, a 2006 Yamaha YZ85, had no front headlamps and was unregistered, according to the DA’s office.
