Worcester woman injured after jumping from moving car

A Worcester woman was injured Tuesday after jumping out of a moving vehicle, Worcester police said.

Around 11:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman who had jumped or been pushed from a moving vehicle in the area of Orne and Lincoln streets. Police said they located a 25-year-old woman suffering from minor injuries and lacerations.

A 39-year-old woman had been driving a 2005 Chevy Equinox down Orne Street with the 25-year-old in the rear passenger seat of the car and a 41-year-old woman in the front passenger seat, police said.

The driver braked but the pedal had not resisted and the car began accelerating down Orne Street toward Lincoln Street. Both passengers tried to exit the car while it was gaining speed down the hill, according to police.

Police said the driver stopped the front passenger from leaving the vehicle, but the 25-year-old jumped out of the car. She then rolled down Orne Street for about 40 feet before coming to a stop.

The driver managed to steer the vehicle left onto Lincoln Street and stop it by driving the passenger side tires into the curb, according to police.

The woman who jumped from the car was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police said they are still investigating the incident.
