Two men arrested for allegedly stealing packages in Brighton
Two men were arrested Wednesday for allegedly opening packages in a Brighton building and stealing their contents, according to Boston police.
At around 4:55 p.m., officers responded to a report of two people stealing packages and set up surveillance on two men fitting the suspects’ descriptions outside 1298 Commonwealth Ave.
During the surveillance, officers watched one of the suspects stop the building’s door from closing after a resident entered using a key, according to police. Officers said they saw a second suspect stay outside, keeping a lookout before entering the building as well.
When officers approached the front door, the building manager told them she was informed by a witness that the two men were opening packages and stealing their contents, police said.
Police said they located Courtney Alexander Perry, 36, of Everett, and James Witkowski-Owens, 21, of Dorchester, inside the building along with ripped and emptied packages. Officers also recovered stolen items from one of the suspect’s bicycles and from the area where they had been sitting, according to police.
Perry was charged with three counts of breaking and entering in the daytime, two counts of larceny from a building, and trespassing. Witkowski-Owens was charged with three counts of breaking and entering in the daytime, two counts of larceny from a building, and two counts of trespassing.
