Lynn man arrested after allegedly attempting to kidnap and assault woman
A Lynn man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attempting to kidnap and rape a woman in Winthrop, police said. Around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, the victim was walking alone down Revere Street when a gray Honda Civic pulled in front of her way. She said the driver, who police later identified as Gerardo Elenilson Portillo, 26, of Lynn, called her beautiful and asked her to take a ride with him, according to police.The victim said she wasn’t interested and continued walking. Elenilson Portillo allegedly followed her in his vehicle and then approached her by foot, demanding she go in his car with him.Police said he attacked her when she refused, bringing her to an isolated area before running away due to her screams.Winthrop, Lynn, Somerville, and Revere police tracked down and arrested Elenilson Portillo at his place of employment in Somerville. He is expected to be charged with assault with intent to rape, attempted kidnapping, indecent assault and battery, strangulation, and child endangerment.
