Vermont driver allegedly crashed while playing Pokemon Go, drunk

A man was arrested Sunday in Rutland, Vermont, after allegedly crashing his car while playing Pokemon Go and driving under the influence, Vermont State Police said. Around 8:14 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Pittsford Road and Colonial Drive. Police said they found Nicholas Coccia, 21, of Rutland, in the vehicle. Coccia told officers he was driving from Chittenden to Rutland and had been “hunting Pokemon” with friends, police said. He also said he was distracted by the Pokemon Go app on his phone, according to police. Police said Coccia exhibited signs of intoxication and participated in field sobriety tests. According to police, a breath test revealed Coccia had a blood alcohol content of 0.205, more than twice the legal limit. Coccia was charged with driving under the influence and later released to a sober family member, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court on August 8.
