Governor Charlie Baker continued to defend his proposal to sell a permanent easement on the State House lawn to a neighboring luxury condo building during an interview on WGBH Thursday, The Boston Globe reports.

The proposal, which was attached onto a supplementary budget filed by Baker last week, would allow the construction of window wells for three “au pair” units and a building superintendent unit in the basement of 25 Beacon St.

“All it is, is a window wall,’’ Baker told radio hosts Jim Braude and Margery Eagan.

Baker reiterated during the interview that the proposal had been approved by the Massachusetts Historical Commission, citing a 2015 letter sent by the commission to the developers.

But Secretary of State William Galvin, who serves as chairman for the commission, told the Globe the letter approved architectural plans for the interior of the building and the board was never asked about the easement.

“It is simply not true,’’ Galvin said of Baker’s comments on WGBH. “He is twisting what the letter says.”
