7-year-old on bicycle critically injured after being struck by a car in Mashpee
A 7-year-old girl was struck by a car while riding her bicycle in Mashpee on Wednesday, according to Mashpee police. Police said the child’s injuries are considered to be life-threatening.
Police responded to the intersection of Route 130 and Juniper Road around 3:50 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Responding officers said they found the child, who had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Route 130 on her bicycle.
The child was taken by a medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to police. The driver was also transported to a hospital with what police said appeared to be stress related issues caused by the crash.
Police said the crash is an open investigation. Route 130 is expected to be shut down for several hours between South Sandwich Road and Great Neck Road North, police said.
