Salem man charged after allegedly stabbing woman in eye
A Salem man was arraigned in Salem District Court on Tuesday for allegedly attacking his friend’s ex-girlfriend, days after his release from a Middleton jail, according to the Essex District Attorney’s office.Peter Turco, 39, was charged with home invasion, mayhem, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily harm, authorities said. He “stipulated to dangerousness,” meaning that he agreed in court he was dangerous and should be held without bail, according to Carrie Kimball Monahan, spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney’s office.
On Friday, Turco allegedly knocked on the back door at the Salem home of 28-year-old Sarah Turner asking for a glass of water. When she turned away, he slammed her head into a kitchen cabinet and began attacking her, according to a police report.
Turner contacted police and was sent to a Salem hospital. Kimball Monahan said she suffered a serious wound to her left eye, and there is a possibility of loss of vision. Turner’s orbital bone was also shattered and her jaw was broken in two places, according to The Boston Globe.
Turco knew of the victim through her former boyfriend, Evan Kinlock, who is currently in jail, according to authorities. After a two-day search and investigation, police said Turco was arrested in Salem on Monday evening.
He is scheduled to return to court in about a month.
