A parking-protected bike lane is coming to a stretch of Beacon Street
City workers will install a permanent, parking-protected bike lane on Beacon Street between Massachusetts Avenue and Charlesgate East, The Boston Globe reports.
Street restriping is expected to take place Thursday evening, reconfiguring the roadway so bike paths are protected by parked cars on the left and the curb on the right.
“Many Boston residents request this type of facility,” Stefanie Seskin, active transportation director for the Boston Transportation Department, said. “The experience of other cities shows that providing a network of protected bike lanes not only improves safety but also tends to attract more people to riding bikes for their everyday trips.”
